Stories of unconventional cardiac MRI

Since Cardiac Cardiac MRI is more than an imaging tool. It’s a gateway to probing hidden dimensions of the heart. Together, we’ll venture beyond morphology, function, and flow to explore the unique possibilities of both high- and low-field systems.
My ‘cardiac’ stories will cover:
- probing cardiometabolic alterations using proton spectroscopy and cardiac fat imaging. We will see how an understanding of physics enables precision MRI, unlocking an unconventional application for monitoring the heart during a long-term fasting intervention, and how these insights translated into advanced cardiac MRI at low field.
- our attempt at 7T sodium cardiac MRI, which led to the development of multi-quantum sodium MRI techniques, taking us from fundamental quantum equations to unexpected collaborations.
- building a platform to visualize the cardiac response to exercise stress on our low-field MRI,
- highlighting both its challenges and future perspectives.
I hope these curiosity-driven stories will inspire your own, showing how research grounded in physics and driven by innovation can expand the horizons of cardiac MRI. By embracing the unconventional, we not only extend its capabilities but also reshape the questions we dare to ask of the heart.
