7T imaging of cerebral structure and vasculature at the mesoscopic scale

Dr.-Ing. Hendrik Mattern

Abteilung Biomedizinische Magnetresonanz

Institut für Physik (IfP)

Otto v Guericke Universität Magdeburg

Germany

Wednesday, 19 June 2024, 16:00

· CPD

7T provides the necessary signal-to-noise ratio and, therefore, image resolution to bridge the macro- and microscopic scale. Leveraging motion correction to prevent image degradation due to involuntary head motion, structural and vascular data with up to 250 μm and 140 μm isotropic resolution are presented, some of the highest resolution MR images acquired to date.

Beyond ultra-high field, high-performance gradient systems provide untapped potential for imaging the brain's (micro)structure and neurofluids. The potential of combining 7T and high-performance gradients with our recently installed 7T Terra.X Impuls Edtion will be elucidated, and initial images will be presented.

Beyond neuroimaging, the research on the heart-brain-axis has recently gained momentum and the talk will conclude with a short overview on the prospects and endeavors in Magdeburg to study microvascular dysfunction across organs.
