MRI has evolved into a powerful imaging technology in most medical fields. Interestingly, in dentistry the technique has so far been mostly limited to imaging of the soft tissues within the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). However, soft tissues play a major role in many diseases in dentistry and maxillofacial imaging, yet imaging has until now largely relied solely on radiographic techniques. Consequently, MRI offers a potentially powerful imaging solution with many applications in dental imaging. In parallel with this existing imaging gap, recent technological advances, particularly in lowfield MRI, have significantly reduced operational challenges. In 2024, following a two-year period of dentistry-specific beta development at Aarhus University, a 0.55 T MRI system tailored specifically to the imaging needs of dentistry was brought to market. This seminar summarizes the background of MRI applications in dentomaxillofacial imaging and presents clinical images from several applications acquired with this dedicated low-field scanner.
The lecture will be held in sitem-insel (Room O2.211), Freiburgstr. 3, Bern followed by an Apéro and discussion and boroadcast virtually via Zoom at
